In a shocking statement in the court today, Salman Khan’s driver, Ashok Singh said that it was him who was driving the car at the time of the 2002 hit-and-run accident and not Salman. “The driver Ashok Singh has been put up by the defence. He has told the court that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident,” Public Prosecutor Pradeep Gharat told reporters.
On Friday, the actor had said in the court that a false statement was registered against him. He denied that he was drunk and he was not driving when the accident occurred.
Salman’s car had rammed into a bakery shop in Bandra on September 28, 2002, killing one person and injuring four others who were sleeping outside on a pavement. According to the prosecution, Salman was driving the car and he was under the influence of alcohol at the time, a charge he denied.
The Superstar is being tried for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. If found guilty, he could face up to 10 years in jail.
